Would You Take Your Chances?

As the lockdown drags on, those who are out of work or deemed “non-essential” (I hate that term) look for ways to ease the financial and emotional drain from this crisis. An interesting topic was broached called “Immunity Passports.” (See Here) The idea is based around the thought that once you get the COVID virus, your body becomes immune from further infection. No one is sure if that is actually the case (See Here) but what if it was. What if there was a test that would accurately determine that you could not get sick again from the virus? Would you allow yourself to get sick to gain the freedom to go back to work? Even if there was a 2%-3% chance of dying? It seems like the ultimate game of craps.

There are two major questions at play here. First, you could still be a carrier and bring the disease to other, more-susceptible victims. This has always been the my major concern. Even if I feel like I am in the “healthy” population and would most likely survive, I do not want to cause someone else to get sick. Secondly, if you are free to move around – what are you moving around to? How much is open? Can you go back to work if your job is still deemed “non-essential?” (there is that work again). Also, do we have enough tests to test everyone for the immunity markers? The key to getting on the other side of this is going to be mass testing. We have to get there so we can start returning to whatever the new normal looks like.
